Title: The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
This is a recommendation by Mz. Elizabeth Klehfoth. (Round of applause!) It finally came in today! My librarian said she saw the movie when it first came out, ‘a long time ago,’ but didn’t recall how she felt about it. According to the back cover this is a ‘cult phenomenon.’ Then they made mention of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. This is all causing me to be super excited to crack this book. More to follow…
I finished it and now know what it means when a book claims to be a ‘coming of age’ story. This is it. This is the one. I don’t know really how much of a cult following this book has and if it did, I believe it’s petered out. I say this because I’ve been asking everyone I know that reads and was alive and remembers 1991, as I do, if they remember this book or the movie. And everyone seems to be drawing a blank when I ask, although most have probably heard the name of it in passing. But it was great and this should cause a stir all over again because it shows just how relevant current topics are/were in 1991, as well. People just were a little more closed minded about a lot of them. I found the subject matter was a wonderful exploration of the times, learning who we were to ourselves and to each other was very touching!
Top notch!
