Title: Cinder

I really, really wanted to like this story. I love Cinderella aka Cinder within this series. As I read this book I realized I don’t know hardly anything about this futuristic jargon the author kept referring to. Cyborgs and moon people called Lunars and such. So, I had no choice but to tap into my memory files and search for something within my understanding of which to make a logical connection to the story. Therefore, in order for my brain to understand the scene with the android that Cinder’s evil stepmom used as her personal maid, my mental connection went to the cartoon, Meet the Jetsons. The android maid in the book reminded me of that cute little cartoon robot rolling around on her treads, wearing a frilly apron and pushing a vacuum around. Then my next mental comparison from the story was of Back to the Future, where Marty McFly actually went to the future. I remember him running around his futuristic hometown and the movie depicted a futuristic technology of computer screens being hologram-like and kind of floating randomly in mid air. I’m pretty sure the evil stepmom in Cinder had one. Then in the book the author imagined up what she termed as ‘med-droids’. Robots that handled those afflicted with the local plague. These ‘med-droids’ reminded me of Bender from Futurama. And to combine all these components into one glitzy story sounded amazing!

But alas I didn’t feel any sizzle between Cinder(ella) and the prince and I wasn’t super excited about returning to the story after a short time away. For me this went from sizzle to fizzle.

I would like to note that I’ve heard it’s a good book so please, feel free, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
