Title: The Vanishing Year
I am wondering what exactly it is I want to say about this book. I was fairly entertained whilst reading this tale until it came to the end. I was not wowed and it is slightly forgettable. Today, only one day later and I had to struggle to recall exactly how the story plotted itself out.
Apparently, this woman has been married a year to a doting husband only to find out later that he only married her to recreate some sick fantasy of reliving the life he had had with her dead twin sister that she never knew she had. It was complicated. She had been adopted and her birth mother never sought her out, but when she, herself, took the initiative to do the locating and finally found her birth mother she was to learn that she had a twin. Sister. Whaaaaat?! Like, they lived close, only minutes away from each other and they never managed to cross paths.
Turns out the twin sister died 3 years prior, oddly close to the same timing the husband’s first wife passed. Turns out not only did the twin sisters share the same zip code (probably) but also the same husband? Double whaaaat!?
To put it mildly hubby was not receptive to his current wife’s accusation of having been married to her twin. How did she find out, you wonder?
Apparently there’s this one specific picture of her that was framed in hubby’s home office. Not the first time she’s seen it either and until now had just assumed it was herself. The girl looked just like her. But wait, upon closer inspection she realizes, how could this be a picture of herself when she has no memory of taking this specific picture and upon closer inspection still, she realizes she’s never actually seen the outfit she’s wearing in the picture. Could it be? On an even closer inspection she realized it could.
It wasn’t her. It was her dead twin…
