Title: The Guest List
I chose this one based on the yellow and white circle displayed on the front. A Reese’s Book Club pick. I began my ‘journey,’ if you may, with Mizz Whitherspoon thoroughly delighted with her choices of reading material. However, as of late I am finding myself more and more torn over her selections. Don’t get me wrong I have read many fabulous stories that were promoted with her seal on the cover page, but recently I’ve discovered some I cannot get into.
Maybe I’m getting old, but the sex scene within the first 20 pages didn’t do it for me. That was followed up with a scene of 5 boyhood friends sitting around drinking beer and ribbing on each other, but the next scene was the clincher. I just cannot give my energy to an author that writes of cutting themselves with razor blades as though it’s an ordinary and acceptable pass time. I definitely count this on my list of lowlights for the week, shoot, maybe even month. Sorry Reese, better luck next time.
