Author: Erin Kelly
Title: He Said She Said
What a mind effery. Plot twists and turns that one never could have foreseen lest you were the author yourself. I must commend you Mizz Kelly, to be able to first of all come up with such an idea, but then to execute it so well in writing.
I sat down with this story expecting something along the lines of this… people enjoying a festival centered around the magical moments when the sun hides behind the moon during a solar eclipse. This phase, the totality phase, I learned from this book is one of the five phases spoken of to categorize the path of a solar eclipse. As I’ve never experienced such a phenom, I found myself relying, (might I add, trustingly), upon Erin Kelly’s words as she described the excitement, along with the temporary feeling of something… more than could possibly be described in words. But she did so wonderfully, leaving the reader in awe of what such an experience could possibly be like. She tells of how the winds kick up as though the totality of the eclipse is its own entity. Like a temporary portal somewhere unknown and wonderful for its entirety. Then the sun moves on into the next phase and the story leads us into a horrible series of events. Turns out that not everyone has another person’s best interests in mind, even when the sun is hidden behind the moon and all truths feel ok because these misdeeds took place in the darkness of the moon’s shadow. They say evil hides in the dark.
I am left in the aftermath of reading this piece still trying to wrap my head around the concept. Once I started this novel, I was loath to put it down. I finished it in less than 2 days while still maintaining my regularly scheduled life. And even now, the next day, I cannot come to terms with how I feel about the character’s actions and the resulting events as they unfolded. The twist at the end was incredible and left me questioning everything I thought I knew about their individual integrity. A masterful incite to the mind and how one jagged little lie can create a tornado’s worth of destruction in it’s wake.
This being the second book of Erin Kelly’s in which I have consumed I am in serious like of her writing style and wonder what a conversation with this magnificent mind could possibly be like. In case you cannot read between my words I will say it bluntly. Do yourself a favor and pick up one of Erin Kelly’s books and settle in for a mental adventure like no other.
