Rated R – Strong sexual content

I wrapped up my read late last night and am unsure how to feel about this book. I absolutely love the way Mz. McInnis has a prose that flows, but I’m still not sure if I liked the storyline she presented.

Once upon a time friends and college roommates are reunited when a drug deal goes horribly wrong. Cassie, the wilder of the two, now on the lamb realizes just how close her once-upon-a-time-bestie lived from the scene of the crime. In fact, super close, only about a neighborhood away was where Beth, the more timid of the two, had made a life of becoming a married, piano teacher. Completely devoid of the friend she once called Cassie.

When Cassie suddenly and unexpectedly pops back up into Beth’s life her explanation for the sudden visit isn’t quite accurate. She conveniently fails to mention the man hunt that is happening all around them. Embellishing the story here, a tad misleading there, always careful to leave out the part of murder and mayhem.

But with their history how could Beth say no?

A few very entertaining days pass in which not only does Cassie remain true to form by trying to seduce the husband, his dad, the father-in-law and anyone else she could get her dirty paws on. As her visit progressed so did the list of suspects in her up and coming disappearance. Now Cassie is gone and everyone seems to have a motive.

My problem was the ending. It didn’t fit with what the author was leading me to believe about either of the friends. An example and not from this book of what I mean is, say, the author throughout the story insisted the sky was blue. All conversations inside the character’s head and that came out of their mouths indicated as well that the sky is blue. However, the twist at the end was the revaluation the sky was in fact a deep green.

In all? Very entertaining despite my problems with the plot.

P. 92 Mz. McInnis quotes Goethe, ‘The person born with a talent they are meant to use will find their greatest happiness in using it.’

Question. Is it legal for a cop to find an unlocked phone that is likely tied to a murder investigation and swipe into it to have a browse around?
