Author: Clare Mackintosh
Title: I See You
I spotted this on the bookshelf and thought to myself, self? Whelp? I see my favorite author is endorsing it so it must be good. The storytelling itself was beautiful. Ms. Mackintosh you have a gift for writing very well thought out dialogue and the emotions between the characters was believable.
At first I thought the reason I was feeling a little dispassionate about the book was that the effects were lost in translation. You see, I’m from the states and this novel is written heavily using London lingo which isn’t usually a problem for me. As I pondered further I realized it’s that the hook wasn’t big enough to land me, and so I had to cast it back. I read almost to page 100 and I waffled on continuing in hopes that the hook was just around the corner, but even if it is, I don’t think at this point I could return.
Ms. Mackintosh this is only your second novel. I wonder if your niche isn’t romance? And I do wish you the best of luck in the future and with some honing of your skills you’ll be one to compete with.
