I See You

Author: Clare Mackintosh
Title: I See You

I spotted this on the bookshelf and thought to myself it must be good if my favorite author, Ruth Ware, could be found on the cover endorsing this book. Sadly though, I was wrong. The upside is Mizz Mackintosh, you have a beautiful way of storytelling about you. You have a gift. Not everyone can write good dialogue, and the emotions were portrayed quite believably.

At first I thought the reason I was feeling a little dispassionate about the book was that the effects were lost in translation. You see, I’m from the States and this novel is written heavily in London lingo which isn’t usually a problem for me, until now. As I pondered further, I realized it’s also that the hook wasn’t big enough to land me, and so I had to cast it back. I read almost to page 100, and I waffled on continuing in hopes that the hook was just around the corner, but even if it is, I don’t think at this point I could return.

Mizz Mackintosh this is only your second novel. I wonder if your niche isn’t romance? And I do wish you the best of luck in the future and with some honing of your skills you’ll be one to compete with.
