Title: Local Woman Missing
(February 6, 2025) Note to future self: I keep looking at this book, Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica with a feeling of familiarity. I’m pretty sure I’ve already attempted to read one of her books in the past but I didn’t write a review for it so cannot remember what I thought. I’m not even 100% certain that I did, or not.
Present day. I just finished reading this, having made pretty good time. I am so happy I stopped putting off reading this book. I must say, I am wowed. This is one of those if-I-could-read-this-in-one-sitting-and-get-away-with-it-I-would kind of books. I wondered early on if Mz. Kubica had bitten off more than she could chew with the extravagant plot, unexpected build ups and twisty turns throughout. I kept looking for the metaphorical chink in the armor. I couldn’t find one. This book is a stunner.
This story explores the question of how far one person is willing to go to cover up a crime. How much is their freedom worth? Would they be willing to do the unspeakable to safeguard the secret? The answer lies within the pages to this beautifully written tale, leaving you gasping for breath and staying up late into the night for just one more page…
I cannot wait to hear all your thoughts.
