Title: Only Say Good Things

The world knew Mr. Hugh Hefner as an icon. His wife/ girlfriends knew him as a narcissist.

‘Sexual liberation’ is what Mr. Hefner was known for, as well, obviously, as the famous Playboy Bunny symbol. He was the living embodiment of what that symbol stood for and represented.

As a grown and mature woman, I am not a fan of Playboy. When I was young and still inexperienced in the world, I remember finding myself intrigued by the off-limit contents of this magazine, this was an era when the magazine was in full stride. However, now after getting some life experience under my belt I just don’t feel that a roomful of women lying around naked for both the camera and Mr. Hefner’s every desire is a stride forward in the women’s lib movement.

Having said all that, I really was enjoying the story and feeling a little soft spot in my heart for how vulnerable and dependent on Mr. Hefner that Crystal, his to-be wife, became. She wasn’t raised with much and fell trappings to all this lifestyle had to offer. Shelter, in a mansion no less, three hot meals a day, the newest and best in clothing, an allowance, although small for all that was expected of her, and having had self-proclaimed herself as having daddy issues I would say this arrangement satisfied all her needs.

I did feel it unfair for Mz. soon-to-be Hugh Hefner to have been a co-star in a popular reality television series and not to have been paid for her on-screen efforts, while Mr. Hefner, only her boyfriend at the time, earned himself quite a pretty penny.
Alas, at the end I felt it got a little long winded. At T -3 pages I just couldn’t read anymore. I still loved the story, but it should have ended much more concisely, and quickly with all the little loose ends tied up in a nice and neat pretty little metaphorical bow. Otherwise? The story was very engaging and entertaining.

Fun fact: Mr. Hefner exerted total control over the women in his life, even giving his girlfriends curfews of 6:00, PM. On special nights when the mens were over to play cards and watch movies they were allowed out until 8:30, sometimes even 9:30. Never later. Apparently, nothing good happens after 9:30 anyway, so they’re not missing out on anything. Or so they were told.
