Title: The Spellman Files
I have to make an amends to Mz. Lutz. The first time I attempted this book I didn’t give it a fair chance. It in fact turned out to be a firecracker of a book! Mz Lutz has quite a sense of humor and the way she writes the back and forths between the members of the Spellman household are superbly dry and witty. One scene that stands out in hilarity was when Rae, the younger sister, was to meet the new boyfriend of her older sister, and at age 14, her back story was to be of a recovering heroin addict. Claiming she had kicked the junk 6 months prior. And even delivered the schtick when the boyfriend arrived with a perfectly straight face.
Although I found the writing quite cheeky I do feel that this story could have been wrapped up a bit quicker and with a bigger and better explanation behind all the missing kids in this story. Also, maybe dial back on all the car chase scenes? I felt it was a bit overboard and fantastical how Izzy and the parents are chasing and being chased by each other all over the city; breaking taillights and slicing tires and whatnots.
In all? I recommend this as a fun story to pass some hours and cuddle up with.
